Under 13 League Cup – RS Pratt Memorial Trophy (Final)

Sunday 5th June - Crook v Willington at Hunwick Cricket Club

Coach Calvin took his team on a merry journey to Hunwick Cricket Club. The hottest day of the year and a large crowd enjoying the glorious sunshine in eager anticipation of the local derby final.

Jake Dickinson won the toss and elected to bat on a dry wicket. Will Beanland and Dan Gray slowly accumulated 18 runs on a wicket difficult to score freely on. Some good bowling soon resulted in the first breakthrough. At 18-1 it was a good start but at 23-3 Crook were buzzing. Another wicket fell with the score on 30, it was time for the team to consolidate and look to post a decent total. Will Beanland and Callum Brown took control of the innings as a lapse in fielding allowed some important boundaries to be scored. Will finally retiring on 30 not out. Callum showed a great deal of bravery scoring a valuable 15 and Issac Fennyhough a quick 6 in the final overs. Finishing on 76-4 it was a score Coach Stephenson felt could be defended, an inspiring pep talk to the team ensured the lads felt confident knowing recent form could be the difference.

The lads took to the field with a very positive attitude, all aware of how important the fielding was to the outcome of the final. Jake Dickinson started proceedings and it was not long before he was in the action snicking off the opener to keeper Dan Gray. Crook's number three entered the arena and soon has his middle peg up rooted by a fine yorking delivery from Jake. A sight not normally seen in U13s Cricket. The boys were flying not just by the bowlers but also by the fielders. Sam Thompson made some amazing diving stops on the short boundary to stop certain fours, instead pilling the pressure on the batsman.

Issac Fennyhough removed the other opener and Crook's innings was in turmoil, 13-3 soon became 19-5 as the bowlers and fielders dominated. A middle order stand added a level of respectability but the chase was never on. As soon as the in form batsman retired the innings capitulated from 55-6 to 56-9. Will Beanland mopping up the tail in emphatic fashion.

A clinical display in the field and a huge smile on Coach Stephenson. A massive congratulations to the team celebrated by soft drinks all round! It was a fine mental performance by the team all backing each other to the max. It is testament to the boys, a great team spirit with a good attitude and respect to all.

Congratulations to Hunwick Cricket Club on staging a wonderful final, grassroots cricket at best.

Wednesday 1st June Evenwood V Willington

The under 13’s visited Evenwood and posted 63 – 9, a disappointing total but scoring runs on Evenwood's deck is never too easy.

The worries though were soon removed, with the Willington bowlers tearing through the Evenwood Batsman 40 all out. Jake Thompson finishing with figures of 4-1 and Will Beanland 3-5.

Sunday 29th May - Willington v Ushaw Moor (Double header)

A rearranged game to fit into the now busy schedule. Ushaw Moor won the toss and elected to bat. It did not take Willington long to get into the action Jake Dickinson removing the opening batsman with his second ball. Wickets continued to tumble at pace with Ushaw Moor posting a disappointing 36 all out. The lads bowled really well with Hayden Payne the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-1.

The chase did not take long with the lads knocking of the runs required easily in 12 overs.

Wednesday 18th May Langley Park V Willington

The u13s travelled to Langley park with a very young side, having lost the toss the home side elected to bat first and posted 106 – 6. The feeling from the sidelines was maybe the score was 20 above what it should have been.

Indeed that turned out to be true, as the batsman struggled to score and Willington’s innings faltered to 82 in 20 overs.

Under 13 League Cup – RS Pratt Memorial Trophy

Wednesdy 11th May - Tudhoe v Willington

The first game of the season for the U13's and a short journey over to Tudhoe for the final game in the qualifying round of the Cup. Tudhoe won the toss and elected to bat on a cold evening. Despite some steady bowling we gave away too many extras and Tudhoe posted a competitive target of 108-3 from their 20 overs.

The lads started slowly and were behind the rate losing a couple of wickets early on until Jake Dickinson and William Curry settled the nerves and both scored assured 30's. Jake with one almighty six that cleared the barricades and landed on the roof of a house. The partnership was the tonic for the boys to complete a comfortable victory finishing on 109-2 in the sixteenth over.
