Match Report Due

15th May 2016 Crook v Willington

A young under 11s team travelled to Crook for the local derby match. After a good warm up the team were raring to go with George and Harry Coe and Jess Khan making their league debuts.

Having won the toss captain Joseph Davis decided to bowl first. The team bowled and fielded really well but were unlucky on numerous occasions missing the stumps by millimetres. It took the introduction of Jess Khan into the bowling attack to make the break through. The team were ecstatic although unsure how to celebrate with Jess, she says high fives will be fine.

A few more wickets followed from Joseph, George and Harry Alderson saw Crook finish on nett 238. Harvey Franks had a really good game as wicket keeper.

Our batting was really good for such an inexperienced team, with some good decision making and hitting the boundaries at the right time. All the batters contributed and helped by 44 extras the innings finished on 291. A good start to the league program.

Under 11 League Cup – Roy Coates Memorial Trophy

8th May 2016 Tudhoe v Willington

This morning the under 11s travelled to tudhoe for a group 3 decider for the Roy Coates cup.

The coach had a feeling a few players had had a late night as the warm up started with 2 players. However the rest of the team soon to begin to turn up.

After winning the toss Tudhoe decided to bat on a damp morning. The boys bowled and fielded really well considering the ball was consistently wet. They restricted Tudhoe to 249 with 2 wickets for Joseph Davies and James Million and 1 for James Platt.

In reply the boys were watchful but struggled to score the big runs on a slow wicket.

It all came down to the last over with Willington 4 runs behind however 6 runs of the bat from Joseph and 4 extras saw us home by 6 runs and progress to the semi final stage.

6th May 2016 Willington v Mainsforth

A rearranged fixture from Sunday. The Under 11s won the toss and elected to bat first.

They got off to a solid start with some sensible batting from James Million. This was followed up by some good batting from Joseph Davies and Callum Brown. The innings finished on 279 for 3.

In reply Mainsforth were always behind the run rate with some excellent bowling from James Platt, Mason Bartlett, Harvey Franks, Callum Pearson and 2 wickets from James Million. The Mainsforth innings finished on 255/3. The only disappointment was coinciding 39 in wides, something to work on training.

Good to see the zing balls in action. Thanks to Peter Franks for scoring.

24th April 2016  Willington v Brandon

Brandon conceded the tie.

A friendly was played against a strong Hetton Lyons team which proved good experience for our young team.
